The New York Times releases daily word puzzles, including NYT Connections, Strands, Wordle, Spelling Bee, and The Mini Crossword, to keep players engaged.
Among those, NYT Connections features a 4×4 grid word puzzle where players must group words into color-coded categories.
Despite today’s difficulty level at 2 out of 5, many have a challenging time placing Sconce and Rug in either of the groups.
Answers For NYT Connections In January 16, 2025
After a quick glance at today’s NYT Connections, the words made sense as they didn’t feature any tricky words, unlike yesterday’s edition.
So, for my starting guess, I chose Business, Commerce, Market, and Trade and got the easiest category. The yellow category is “Buying And Selling” for today’s NYT Connections.
Moving along, words like Agent, Mole, and Plant caught my eye, but I added Switch to the mix without much thought.
However, I lost a life and was a word away when I picked Agent, Asset, Mole, and Plant for my second attempt.
Fortunately, the words belonged to the blue category titled “Spy.” An asset, in terms of a spy, is someone used to steal secrets from an intelligence organization.
Sconce Meaning In NYT Connections
As I had completed one of the challenging categories, my next move was to get the green category without making any mistakes.
So, I picked Baseboard, Outlet, Sconce, and Switch and got the category titled “Installed On A Wall.”
In today’s NYT Connections, the meaning of Sconce is a wall-mounted light fixture or candle holder. The fixtures are often used for general lighting or decoration purposes.
Similarly, the remaining words in the group are permanently attached to walls. Baseboards cover the lower parts of the wall, and an outlet is a socket where electric devices connect.
Likewise, a switch, also known as light switch, controls the flow of electricity in outlets and light fixtures.
Rug Meaning With Final Category For Today’s NYT Connections
With four words, Gym, Mall, Pack, and Rug, remaining on the grid, I grouped them and got the final category.
The purple category had the title “___Rat.” In today’s NYT Connection, Rug didn’t refer to a piece of decorative floor covering.
Instead, it meant Rugrat, an informal term for a child. The word can also have a connection to Rugrats, an American TV series about a group of toddlers and their daily adventures.
Similarly, a Gymrat is a person who spends a lot of time working out, a Mallrat is a person who prefers socializing in malls rather than shopping, and a Packrat is a species of rodent.
So, I completed today’s NYT Connections with the following answers:
- Buying Ans Selling (Yellow): Business, Commerce, Market, Trade
- Spy (Blue): Agent, Asset, Mole, Plant
- Installed On A Wall (Green): Baseboard, Outlet, Sconce, Switch
- ___Rat (Purple): Gym, Mall, Pack, Rug
