Meet Malachy In Tainted Grail
To begin this quest, you’ll first need to find Malachy. He is a vendor and quest giver who is typically in or near the Deserted Settlement.
Malachy is unique because he is most often available at night, when many other vendors are not.
You might encounter him after clearing out some bandits for another character, or simply by thoroughly exploring the Deserted Settlement after dark.
Once you locate Malachy, speak with him to learn about his request. He will offer you the quest “Fore-Dweller’s Finger for Malachy.”
Further, Malachy asks you to bring him a Fore-Dweller’s finger, for his own mysterious purposes; accept the quest to add it to your journal.
Locate A Fore-Dweller
You can visit the village near the first city, which is different from the Sunken village.
Inside the local pub, look for a woman named Elaine, who is usually sitting in the back, often on the left side.
Finally, talk to Elaine and complete her quest to find a Fore-Dweller.
Alternatively, in Act 1 you could run into a Fore-Dweller while working on various other quests.
Another chance to run into a Fore-Dweller is when you play the side quest called “I See a Darkness.”
Defeating Abhartach rewards you with a Fore-Dweller Bauble, but it is unclear if it is the needed ‘finger’ for Malachy’s quest.
Obtain The Fore-Dweller’s Finger
Always search a Fore-Dweller thoroughly after you defeat one. You should be looking for something called a “Fore-Dweller’s Finger.”
If you have not looted any Fore-Dweller before, you may have to look for more battles or turn to Elaine once more.
With the Fore-Dweller’s Finger, make your way back to Malachy at the Deserted Settlement. Go talk to him and give him the finger to wrap up the quest.
Malachy will reward you with the Wand of Piercing Cold, which can improve both cold damage and chilled effects you deal.
