Barm And Lear Meaning In NYT Connections For June 18, 2025 (#738)

Don't overthink!

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Barm in today’s Connections didn’t refer to either froth of malt liquor or a barm cake; instead, it was just an arm.
  • Lear, too, didn’t represent its usual meaning of ‘learning’ or ‘King Lear’. The word was just a body part with an extra L at the start.
  • Features of a rainy day, Something Precise, Something related to Pod and Body Parts are the four hints of today’s Connections.

It’s the 738th edition of NYT connections, and thankfully, we have the usual 16 sets of words where we have to group them based on their category.

With today’s difficulty being slightly above average, i.e., 3 out of 5, a few words can get tricky to group out.

I feel most players will struggle to group words like Barm, Rankle, Pea, and Lear as they have multiple or no meanings at all.

NYT Connections Hints And Answers For June 18, 2025

Starting Connections is usually straightforward, as you don’t have to use your brain much to get the yellow group (you can start with any group, but yellow is usually the easiest).

Unsurprisingly, I too got the yellow group like most of the time. The words in the Category were Gray (Sky), Wet, Rainy, and Cold. We see these features mostly on rainy days.

The Yellow Group is usually the easiest one.

Moving on to the next set of words, I chose Exactly (Exactly on time), Right (Right in the middle), Dead (Dead Center), and Smack (Smack against the wall), as they denote precision or directness. The group was called “Squarely.”

Even though I hadn’t lost a single life at this point, I finally lost one due to a silly mistake, but nontheless got the third group sorted.

While the purple group is regarded as the “hardest” of all groups for some reason, I always tend to struggle on the Blue one.

Blue And Purple Group Words Meanings

The words I selected for the purple group were Barm (arm), Rankle (ankle), Lear (ear), and Ship (hip); the words were part of the Body Part plus a Starting Letter Group.

If you have followed NYT Connections for a while, this type of pattern is often found in the Blue/ Purple group. You can even see examples of the latest Connections game: June 16th, June 9th, and June 2nd.

So, if you have just started playing Connections, keep an eye on this, as you could complete the game even without losing a life.

Only one group remains.

As only the last four words remain, I was eager to know what they actually represented.

To my surprise, Astronaut (travels in space pod), Pea (grows in pea pod), Whale (group of whales is called a pod), and Coffee (comes in coffee pods/capsules) were just things representing a pod.

Even though it made sense, I feel most players may struggle to form the Blue group before, as it was Vague. As we have wrapped up Today’s game, here are the group and answers based on standard difficulty;

  • Qualities of a Rainy Day (Yellow): Cold, Gray, Wet, Windy
  • Squarely (Green): Dead, Exactly, Right, Smack
  • Contents of a Pod (Blue): Astronaut, Coffee, Pea, Whale
  • Body Parts Plus a Starting Letter (Purple): Barm, Lear, Rankle, Ship
