HIGHLIGHTS
- Magic 8 Ball is a fortune-telling game where you shake the ball to seek advice, which aligns with its meaning in today’s NYT Connections as part of the “Things You Shake” green group.
- The actual meaning of Ketchum is an occupational name for a cook. However, in today’s Connections, it falls under the purple group “Ending in Synonyms for Friend,” as Ketchum ends with “Chum,” a synonym for a friend.
- Paypal, Primate, and Rosebud are some other words that complete the December 12’s NYT Connections Purple group.
As always, today’s NYT Connections words feature 16 words, yet the words seem to be a bit different and mostly unheard.
After closely analyzing the words, I was not able to collect any 4 similar words, which made it a bit difficult and frustrating.
Words like Ketchum, Xanadu, and Rosebud seem difficult to group out in today’s game as they don’t seem to have exact meanings.
Answers For Today’s (December 11) NYT Connections With Words Meaning
Observing all 16 words of today’s NYT Connections, I could not pick any four words instantly, as I could not relate any words with one another.
Later, after taking a few minutes, I picked words like Paradise and Seventh-Haven; still, two words were left for the first group.
Shangri-La And Xanadu Meaning In NYT Connections #549
After checking out a few words’ meanings, I collected words like Shangri-La and Xanadu, as each of these words referred to a heavenly place.
Shangri-La is an imaginary paradise on earth, especially a remote and exotic utopia. (the word was first described in the 1933 novel Lost Horizon by English author James Hilton.)
Likewise, Xanadu is an idealized place of great or idyllic magnificence and beauty.
After grouping out the words, I got the yellow group titled “Utopia.” The word “Utopia ” typically describes an imaginary community or society.
Magic 8 Ball Meaning In NYT Connections #549 With Green Group Answers
Moving on with the remaining words, I picked words like Snowglobe, Hairspray, Salad Dressing, and Magic 8 Ball. (Only after taking my friend’s suggestion).
After taking a hint from a friend, I discovered that all these words were things that we normally use or need to be asked anyway.
Magic 8 Ball is a fortune-telling game in which you shake the ball to seek advice. While other words represent things, we shake, like shaking a snow globe for lights and glitter swirling around inside.
Jazzercise And Paralympics Meaning In NYT Connections #549
Now that only 8 words remained, I was nowhere near figuring out the connections between the words, so I used hints and considered seeking help from a friend.
With all the help, I collected words like Jazzercise, Paralympics, Pokemon, and Wikipedia. I was not sure initially how they related, but later, I figured out the connections.
All the words I picked were composed of blinding two words, like Pokemon, which is composed of combining Pocket Monsters.
Meanwhile, Wikipedia is a portmanteau of the words “wiki” and “encyclopedia.”
Jazzercise is a type of fitness training that combines aerobic exercise with jazz dancing. In today’s context, combine words like Jazz and exercise.
Likewise, the Paralympics are a series of international contests for athletes with disabilities. Yet today’s Connections involves combining words like Paraplegic (or Parallel) and Olympics.
All Group Answers For Today’s NYT Connections With Ketchum Meaning
With only four words remaining, it was obvious that they were all in the same group, yet I could not figure out how.
So later, after analyzing the word, I got the word connections. Each word ended with synonyms for friends like Mate, Bud, and Pal.
Ketchum is an English word derived from “cycen” which means an occupational name for a cook.
Chum is the word that Ketchum ends with, which is a synonym for a friend, just like mate and bud from Primate and Rosebud.
On December 7, NYT Connections used the word “chum” to refer to fish or meat cut into small pieces and thrown from a boat to attract larger fish.
But in today’s game, Chum refers to friends. NYT Connections tricks players in its own way.
Finally, after taking help from a friend and looking for hints, I was able to complete today’s NYT Connections with the following answers;
- Utopia (Yellow): Paradise, Seventh Heaven, Shangri-La, Xanadu
- Things You Shake (Green): Hairspray, Magic 8 Ball, Salad Dressing, Showglobe
- Proper Noun Portmanteaux (Blue): Jazzercise, Paralympics, Pokemon, Wikipedia
- Ending In Synonyms For “Friend” (Purple): Ketchum, Paypal, Primate, Rosebud
