Space Marine 2 “Split Screen” And Co-Op Experience

As players eagerly anticipate the release of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, one of the most discussed features is the game’s co-op gameplay.

The Space Marine 2 offers an exciting online experience for up to three players in both the campaign and Operations mode.

However, the inclusion of a split screen in Space Marine 2 has sparked conversations among fans who enjoy co-op experiences.

Co-Op Gameplay Features In Space Marine 2

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 offers extensive co-op gameplay across two main modes: Campaign Co-Op and Operations Co-Op.

Generally, both campaign and operations co-op require completing the opening tutorial mission.

After this, players can unlock online play and invite friends using in-game menus or console friend systems for crossplay. Significantly, the game does not feature local split screen co-op.

Campaign Co-Op

The entire main campaign supports online co-op for up to three players. Further, players join the game as Ultramarines, fighting alongside the protagonist Titus.

However, non-host players experience the same story, abilities and weapons as the host. The difficulty is set by the host and does not scale based on a number of players.

Operations Co-Op

A separate 3-player co-op mode tied to the campaign’s ongoing war. Players take on missions supporting Titus’ efforts, often seeing the other side of his radio conversations

Missions provide shared progression, with players earning experience for their chosen class and currency for cosmetics. Further, progression is between the host and non-host players’ games.

Unlocking Multiplayer and Co-Op Modes

In Space Marine 2, players must complete specific tasks to unlock the multiplayer and co-op features. 

To access multiplayer modes, players first need to complete the introductory tutorial mission.

Although the tutorial can take a significant amount of time, it is essential for understanding the gameplay dynamics.

Players can skip this mission by selecting the “Skip Intro” option in the pause menu.

Enabling Edit Squad Mode In Space Marine 2

After finishing the tutorial, players must report to Captain Sevastus Acheran on the Battle Barge Resilient.

Here, they will receive their first mission briefing, which involves dropping onto the planet Kadaku to complete the “Skyfire” mission.

Successfully completing this mission unlocks the ability to engage in multiplayer gameplay, allowing players to invite friends to their squad or join others for cooperative missions,

Once unlocking the multiplayer, players can fill their squad with up to two additional players through the “Edit Squad” option in the game menu.
