HIGHLIGHTS
- In today’s NYT Connections, Swank comes in the purple category ‘Bird Plus Letter,’ refering to the bird Swan with an extra ‘K’ at its end.
- Gully also has a different mening in today’s edition as it is a seabird, Gull, with an extra ‘Y,’ similar to other words like Crowd (Crow with extra ‘D’) and Puffing (Puffin with extra ‘G’).
- Other categories for today’s NYT Connections are ‘Operating,’ ‘Term,’ and ‘Things In A Camera Kit.’
NYT Connections features a 4×4 word grid, and the player has one chance to solve the puzzle by categorizing words according to their underlying relation.
However, most of the time, the task isn’t as easy as it seems, and in yesterday’s edition, words like Inch and Glow had many wondering about their final category.
Likewise, in today’s NYT Connections 583rd edition, Swank and Gully have come off as confusing words that initially don’t seem to connect with the remaining word spread.
Answers For NYT Connections For January 14, 2025
Today’s NYT Connections has a difficulty level of 3.3 out of 5, and I was prepared to find some tricky words among the 16 given words.
To play on the safe side, I chose Active, Functional, Running, and Working as my first guess, with a plan to nail the easiest category.
Soon, the yellow category appeared with the title “Operating,” as words in the group related to terms used to describe something that is performing or is in action.
Moving on, I picked Meeting, Period, Session, and Sitting and got the green category titled “Term.” With the two relatively easier groups out of the way, I went ahead to complete the puzzle.
Swank Meaning In NYT Connections (#583)
With two groups remaining for a perfect score in today’s NYT Connections, I moved ahead and picked Lens, Strap, Swank, and Gully.
However, I couldn’t have been more wrong, as half of the words belonged to an entirely different category.
So, after thinking for a while and losing two lives, words like Body, Flash, Lens, and Strap made the most sense to me.
Fortunately, it was the blue category with the title “Things In A Camera Kit,” and the words referred to parts of digital cameras.
I grouped the four words Crowd, Gully, Puffing, and Swank and got the purple category, “Bird Plus Letter.”
As expected, Swank meaning wasn’t a display of wealth in today’s NYT Connections. Instead, it referred to the bird Swan with an extra letter “K” at its end.
Gully Meaning Along With Final NYT Connections Categories
The word Gully in the purple category was linked to the seaside bird, Gull, with an extra “Y” attached to it.
The remaining words in the final category for today’s NYT Connections, like Crowd and Puffing, also didn’t have their typical meanings.
Moreover, Crowd meaning for today’s edition is common bird Crow with “D” at its end, and Puffing refers to a species of small seabird Puffin with the letter “G” as an extra element.
So, after losing two lives, here are the answers I got for today’s NYT Connections:
- Operating (Yellow): Active, Functional, Running, Working
- Term (Green): Meeting, Period, Session, Sitting
- Things In A Camera Kit (Blue): Body, Flash, Lens, Strap
- Bird Plus Letter (Purple): Crowd, Gully, Puffing, Swank
