HIGHLIGHTS
- Clog refers to a shoe with a thick wooden sole, rather than a blockage in NYT Connections for January 1, 2025.
- Even though Gatecrash usually means to enter without invitation, in today’s puzzle it refers to Crash, a synonym for Plunge.
- Slimy Animals, Things That Luminesce, Dutch Symbols, and Ending With Synonyms for ‘Plunge’ are today’s NYT Connections categories.
The NYT Connections is a 4×4 grid puzzle game that is all about finding the common threads between words.
With four lives at the players’ disposal, they need to arrange the words into four groups sharing similar themes, and today’s game has 3 out of 5 difficulty levels.
Unlike yesterday’s puzzle, today’s game is tricky, with words that don’t seem quite to fit together, especially clog and aurora, which caused confusion among the players.
Answers For Today’s NYT Connections With Words Meaning
Starting off strong, the first four words I picked were Earthworm, Eel, Salamander, and Slug. The word slime kept returning to my mind as I chose the four words to create the yellow group.
Each word seemed connected as I got the yellow title “Slimy Animals.” Now, I was left with 12 words that didn’t seem to be connected at all.
Similarly, I began seeing words that somehow connected to light, like Radium and Aurora, but I couldn’t find the remaining two words to make up a category.
So I moved on to different words like Canal, Waterfall, Raindrop, and Windmill, but it was a futile effort as I lost one of my life.
Clog Meaning In NYT Connections #570
After having a hard time, I picked the words Canal (Dutch canal), Clog (Dutch shoes), Tulip (Dutch tulip), and Windmill (Dutch symbol for water) and surprisingly got the blue group titled “Dutch Symbols.”
With this category, I found out that Clog didn’t refer to something being blocked with a residue of thick and wet matter in today’s NYT Connections.
Clog also refers to a shoe with a thick wooden sole, which is often associated with Dutch culture and tradition.
Aurora And GateGrash Meaning With All Answers For Today’s NYT Connections
With only 8 words remaining, I went on to complete my green category, one of the easiest ones in the game, which I couldn’t seem to crack.
To try my luck, I grouped Aurora, Firefly, Glowstick, and Radium together. The green group lit up with the title “Things That Luminesce.”
Aurora is a natural phenomenon that has the appearance of reddish or greenish light, especially near the northern or southern magnetic pole.
Finally, to complete today’s Connections, I grouped Gatecrash, Raindrop, Skydive, and Waterfall. The purple group titled “Ending With Synonyms for ‘Plunge'” completed the puzzle.
Turns out each word in the purple group ended with Crash, Drop, Dive, and Fall which were synonyms for Plunge.
Here’s the final solution for today’s NYT Connections based on difficulty;
- Slimy Animals (Yellow)– Earthworm, Eel, Salamander, Slug
- Things That Luminesce (Green)– Aurora, Firefly, Glowstick, Radium
- Dutch Symbols (Blue)– Canal, Clog, Tulip, Windmill
- Ending With Synonyms for “Plunge” (Purple)– Gatecrash, Raindrop, Skydive, Waterfall
