As Gustave is a support character, it is best to focus on upgrading his Vitality and Agility attributes.
Vitality will boost his health, making him harder to take down, while Agility will make him faster, giving him more turns during battle.
Further, more turns mean he can build up more AP, which he needs to use his support skills.
Lastly, if you want your Gustave to deal some damage, you can also invest some points into the Might attribute.
