HIGHLIGHTS
- Heavy Metal is a 3v3 Destiny 2 event where players use tanks and Brigs with basic but hard-to-use controls to collect coins and earn points.
- The event is fun but has rough controls, uneven ground, and balance problems between the two vehicles.
- By finishing matches and challenges, players can rank up and unlock rewards like Strange Coins and the Gryphon Exotic Sparrow.
The Heavy Metal event in Destiny 2 is a new PvP mode that runs from May 9 to May 16.
In this mode, you only fight using vehicles, either Cabal Drake tanks or Fallen Brig mechs.
It’s a 3v3 match, and there’s no normal fighting with guns or abilities. You only use the vehicles.
How Destiny 2 Heavy Metal Event Controls Works
This event is like a mix of the Supremacy mode and a holiday event. After you defeat someone, they drop a coin.

Picking up the coin gives you points. One player on each team is the Leader and glows with a gold light. If you get the Leader’s coin, you get two points instead of one.
Each vehicle has:
- Primary Fire: Your main gun. It shoots with a two-second delay between each shot.
- Secondary Fire: Uses limited ammo. Drakes shoot missiles that lock onto enemies. Brigs fire a strong single missile.
- Dash: A quick movement. Drakes speed forward. Brigs dash to the side.
Destiny 2 Heavy Metal Controls
On mouse and keyboard, press V to dash, or double-tap a movement key. This is the same button you use for Icarus Dash or Slam on Strand Hunter.
But many players say that the tank controls on keyboard feel really bad, because you can’t move the tank body freely from the turret.

Most tank games allow this, but Destiny doesn’t. It’s always been this way in the game, but players still don’t like it.
One player said they played around 10–12 games, got Brigs in only 2 games, and those were the only 2 games they won.
So Brigs may feel easier to control or just better overall, though it’s not certain.
Rewards And Ranking
As you play games and complete challenges, you earn XP to increase your event rank, which goes up to Rank 15.

The final reward is Gryphon, the first-ever Combat Sparrow in Destiny 2.
